Sixty-five years ago,keng,Sheng Daily News(KSDN) was founded on Sept. 3, 1947 in Hualien City on the east coast of Taiwan.
At that time,Taiwan was recovered from Japanese occupation for only two Years. There was not only just a serious shortage of materials, the spiritual life was also rather distressed. The siuation was even worse for the people in east Taiwan. Although founder Mr. Hsieh Ying-yi was fully aware of such an adversary environment and an unpredictable future as well as the difficulties lying ahead. he still moved forward courageously with determination.
He believed that human effort can achieve anything. Furthermore. if there was such a strong need by the society and the time. he should try to overcome every difficulty to provide a decent newspaper in order to help strengthen psychological reconstruction for the people. This is why the newly launched paper is named "Keng Sheng".
"Keng Sheng"means independence and full of lively spirit and strength. The birth of the paper ushered unfolding prospects and bred wity unlimited potential and hope. This has been fully confirmed by the effort and growth of the daily paper itself as well as the development history of east Taiwan.
Keng Sheng Daily News possesses a nature and life characterized by "simplicity,sincerity and perseverance."publisher Hsieh made it clear in the founding announcement of the paper : "As the spokesman for the society, a daily paper should on the one hand spread the infromation of national policied and political decisions, and on the other hand should air the complaints of people as well as distinguish both the benefits and harms of various policies. This daily news should exert its utmost effort in these aspects in order to demonstrate the power of public opinion and fulfil the duty of journalistas."
